Stop, wait! The next time you head for your trash can, think about what youre tossing.
It may just be art! The Lancaster Museum of Art is pleased to host Trashformations East from September 16 October 29. Originating at the Fuller Craft Museum in Brockton, Massachusetts, Trashformations East is a national traveling exhibition
featuring the work of 106 dumpster-diving artists who take thrift to a new extreme.
Plastic grocery bags, old vacuum cleaners, tea bag tags, discarded furniture and soda cans are fair game for this imaginative exhibition, and are transformed into everything
from clothing to eclectic sculptures. While witty and fun to look at, these works of art
hit home the important message of reuse and environmental awareness, making this
a popular exhibit for audiences of all ages.
To compliment this unique exhibit, the Museums ArtsReach program is planning its
first-ever Funky, Clunky, Junky contest. Open to local middle school art classes, entries must be made from found objects and will be judged during Lancasters Fall ArtWalk weekend (September 30 & October 1) at the Museums future location at 215 North Queen Street. Prize money will be used to buy art supplies for the winning classrooms.
Both the exhibit and the contest are made possible through a generous contribution
from 1-800-GOT-JUNK? one of the Museums new corporate partners.
A reception is scheduled for Friday, September 15 from 5-8 pm.
The Lancaster Museumof Art is located at 135 North Lime Street.
Museum hours are Monday-Saturday 10-4 and Sunday Noon-4. Admission is free.
The Museum is handicapped accessible on the first floor.
