Visions of the Susquehanna, an exhibit curated by Rob Evans, sponsored by the Richard C. von Hess Foundation and organized by the Lancaster Museum of Art will be on display in the Armstrong and von Hess Galleries.

In the four centuries that have passed since John Smith first entered the mouth of the Susquehanna in 1608, this extraordinary river has captured the intrigue and imagination of many of this nation’s most significant artists. The exhibit, comprised of approximately 40 major paintings spanning nearly 250 years, features two groups of work. The first is a cross section of the many important images of the river created in the mid 18th century through the early 20th century, with works by such prominent American painters as Joshua Shaw, Karl Bodmer, Sanford Robinson Gifford, George Lafayette Clough, Edmund Darch Lewis, Thomas Worthington Whittredge, George Inness, Thomas Moran, Lloyd Mifflin, Charles Demuth, Stephen Etnier and others. The second part of the exhibit will consist of paintings of or about the river by a group of nationally prominent contemporary artists including: Mark Innerst, Leonard Koscianski, George Sorrels, Debra Bermingham, Randall Exon, Peter Paone, Raoul Middleman, Mark Workman, Rob Evans, Matthew Daub, Bob Andriulli, David Brumbach and JD Wissler.

Following its debut at the Lancaster Museum of Art the exhibit will travel to the Susquehanna Art Museum, Harrisburg, PA; the Governor’s Residence, Harrisburg, PA; Washington County Museum of Fine Art, Hagerstown, MD and the Roberson Museum and Science Center, Binghamton, NY.

Then Again
Maggie Taylor

Gainesville, Florida artist Maggie Taylor will exhibit recent digital prints in her exhibit entitled
Maggie Taylor: Then Again. Taylor graduated from Yale University in 1983 with a
BA in philosophy.

She received an MFA
in photography from the University of Florida. Her current images explore the use of a computer and a flatbed scanner in place of a camera. By placing objects directly on the glass top of the scanner she is able to create a unique type of digital print that has some photographic qualities.
