The Lancaster Summer Arts Festival’s 43rd Annual Open Art Award exhibition, hosted by the Lancaster Museum of Art, was on display June 11 through July 31. This annual exhibition, supported in part by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, presented a survey of the visual arts by Lancaster County artists.

Eligible entrants had to be 16 years of age or older, design and produce their own work, reside or work in Lancaster County, or hold membership in a Lancaster City or County art group. All media, except photography, was eligible.

Symmes Gardner was the Juror of Awards.
Mr. Gardner, a practicing artist, is currently the Director of The Center for Art and Visual Culture at the University of Maryland Baltimore County, Baltimore, MD.

Three cash awards: $500 1st Place, sponsored by Echo Valley Art Group, $350 2nd Place sponsored by Certified Carpet and a $250 3rd Place, sponsored by Novelty Manufacturing Company, were selected by Symmes Gardner.

The $250 People’s Choice Award, sponsored by Erickson Birdhouse Company, was awarded at the conclusion of the exhibition. Visitors to the exhibition were invited to cast their vote f

or a favorite piece.
