CHILDREN,YOUTH & TEEN CLASSES

Scholarship Program

Tuition assistance for Youth and Children’s classes is available through the
Ian Hartman Scholarship and the
Evelyn G. Epstein Associates Scholarship
.
Up to 70% of the class fee, based on financial need, will be awarded.
In order to help an increased number of children, awards are
limited to one scholarship per child per year. For more information or an
application, call or stop by the Museum. Please submit your application
at least three weeks prior to the beginning of class.

Classes must have a minimum of 5 students to run.
If this minimum enrollment is not reached 5 days prior to the first class session,
the class will be canceled and tuition will be refunded.

*Fees for children and youth classes include the cost of materials.

Promising Picassos

Ages 3-5, with an adult

Creativity is fun! Children will explore their “artsy” sides through a variety of media, styles &
techniques. Drawing, painting, sculpture & beyond! Bring a smock or old shirt to class.

Pint Size Potters

Ages 3-7, with an adult

Pinch, coil, sculpt & glaze! Children will have fun in clay while learning hand-building techniques through a variety of projects. Wear old clothing and rubber soled shoes.

Young Potters

Ages 8-12

Pots, cups, bowls, and more! Children will work with clay to create pottery on the wheel. Participants will also have the opportunity to explore hand-building techniques, surface decoration & glazing.

ArtSmart

Ages 9-12

Children will meet new friends, have fun & get ArtSmart while creating unique artwork through a variety of painting, drawing, and sculpture projects! Bring a smock and a snack to class.

In this class, young aspiring artists will focus on the fundamentals of art. Children will enjoy creativity and imagination while exploring painting, printmaking, sculpture & more!

LUNCH BOX ROCKS !

Come explore the lunch box exhibit during Trees Galore. Lunch, schmunch! These hip & cool boxes aren’t just for lunches anymore! Folks use them for supply & storage bins, tool & tackle tins, gift & memory boxes, even as purses. Come let your creativity run wild while you customize a lunchbox with your own sleek sense of style - for fashion, function, or just for fun! Boxes & materials provided. Feel free to bring your own unique decorative items as well! All ages welcome -children ages 3-5 should be accompanied by an adult.

For the adventurous young artist! Explore a variety of art mediums, creating unique artworks for both on & off the wall! Students will be encouraged to think outside the box, considering and planning creative possibilities as part of the artistic process. Each student will need to bring a smock and a sketch book to class.

A continuation of Fundamentals of Drawing, students will build on basic skills to further understand shape, contour line, composition, value, texture and perspective.

Papers, Pastels & Palettes

Ages 10-17

Painting, drawing, collage & more! Learn and explore the elements and principles of design through a variety of mixed media techniques. Unlimited imagination is key is developing your own artistic style. Experiment with paints, papers, pastels and pencils, just to name a few. Demonstrations and fundamental reviews will be given to help students advance their skills.

Expressive Collage

Ages 10 - 17

Think of it as Visual Poetry; words & images - a way to begin exploring individual ideas while working with a variety of art materials, collage and the written word. This class promotes and encourages creativity by developing a unique project from concept through completion.

Young Painter’s Workshop

Ages 10 - 17

While painting from found imagery, still life and landscape, participants will learn basic techniques and explore a variety of mediums including watercolor, tempera and acrylic.

Teen Clay

Ages 13 - 17

This pottery class welcomes teens of all skill levels; beginners and those with prior clay experience. Participants will make cups, bowls, and plates on the potters wheel, create hand built forms and learn how to glaze and fire their creations.

Supply lists for teen & adult classes will be given upon registration.

Artful Adornments:
Thinking Outside the Jewelry Box.

Learn how to make extraordinary jewelry out of ordinary objects from an avant garde jewelry and accessories designer. Participants will learn how to transform buttons, hardware, jar lids, and other forgotten artifacts into earrings, pendants, bracelets, and pins.

A materials list will be given to each student.

Beginning Watercolor

For the true beginner! Loosen up, have fun & explore the basic concepts and techniques involved with watercolor painting.

Beginning Pastels

Participants will learn and explore a variety of basic techniques of applying pastels through strokes, optical color mixing, blending, and layering. Demonstrations, drawing fundamental reviews and encouragement will be given to help students advance their skills and further understand value & texture. Types of pastels, color choices, support, fixing and framing of work will be discussed.

Needle Felting Fun

"Learn how to needle felt! In this simple introductory workshop students will start by needle felting easy images onto a piece of felt. The subject matter comes from student's imagination and is guided by the instructor. These whimsical projects will be mounted and finished with individual creative touches."

Batik Workshop

Explore an art form that dates back to China as early as 500 AD. The process of batiking uses wax and dye to make beautiful pieces of fabric that can be used for a number of different functions. Participants are encouraged to use their creativity and experiment with this ancient, yet non-traditional media.

Exploring the Narrative, Exploding the Book

Investigate the “book” and develop ways to reinterpret it. Using their own stories, participants will create visual narratives that can be conveyedthrough a variety of contemporary twists on what we know as the “book”. Projects will include:creating a book based on found objects, altering existing books to create new stories and exploring a variety of three dimensional book structures.
