Art Classes for 2005

*Fees include the cost of materials.

Classes must have a minimum of 5 students to run. If this minimum enrollment is not reached 5 days prior to the first class session, the class will be canceled and tuition will be refunded.

Promising Picassos

Pint Size Potters
Children and an adult will learn basic hand-building and glazing techniques through a variety of projects. Wear old clothing and rubber soled shoes.

Young Potters

Children will work with clay to create functional pottery on the wheel. Participants will also have the opportunity to explore hand-building techniques, decorating, glazing and firing.

Pottery Partners

Learn basic throwing skills in this clay class that pairs a child with an adult for a foray into functional ceramics. Adults and children alike will benefit from working as a team to create cups, bowls, and more! No experience necessary. Wear old clothing and rubber soled shoes. Materials included. Ages 8 + Class Limit of 8 - 4 pairs of child & adult

Youth Drawing II
A continuation of Fundamentals of Drawing, participants will continue to study still life, landscape and other subjects, building on basic skills to further understand shape, contour line, composition, value, texture and perspective. Ages 10 - 17

Intermediate Youth Drawing

Participants will continue to develop drawing skills working with guided instruction, but working toward a more independent approach in reference to ideas (subject matter) and medium (choice of materials). Ideal follow-up for Drawing I or
Drawing II students.

Teen Clay
This pottery class welcomes teens of all skill levels;
beginners or those with prior clay experience.
Participants will make cups, bowls, and plates on the potters wheel, learn
how to create handbuilt forms and glaze and fire their creations. Ages 13-17

Discover Painting
While painting from still life and landscape, students will learn basic techniques and explore a variety of mediums including watercolor,
tempera and acrylic.

Intermediate Youth Painting
Students will complete paintings in the medium of their choice, utilizing the techniques they learned in the Discover Painting class. Participants will continue to build on basic techniques, advancing skills with guided instruction. Ages 13 - 17

Youth Pastel
Participants will learn and explore a variety of basic techniques of applying pastels through strokes, optical color mixing, blending, and layering. Demonstrations, drawing fundamental reviews and encouragement will be given to help students advance their skills and further understand value & texture.

Block Printmaking for Teens

Jandi Lea Goshert / $95 ($70 member)
5 weeks / Wed. 4 - 5:30 pm / Ages 13 - 17

BEGINNER –
Participants will learn the basic fundamentals of block printmaking, including choosing subject matter, working with carving tools to achieve various effects, and using proper inking and printing methods. Participants will begin with basic black and white block prints, and progress to create a multiple color block print.

INTERMEDIATE -
Participants who have taken a beginner class will continue practicing the art of block printmaking. Students will create multiple color block prints through a variety of techniques, including the use of multiple blocks, watercolor, and the "reduction" method.
